Wild Boar Statue

#94031

This wild boar statue is carved from French limestone, circa 1820. Carved by the French animal sculptor Henri Alfred Jacquemart, whose works were cast in bronze by the Val d' Osne foundry and some by the silversmith Christofle, its work like this that earned this artist one of the 5 highest distinct French decorations -- Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur. Making both large and small scale sculptures, this artist was known world-wide for his still animals, and despite such a hard medium, still danced with movement and vigor.
