Antique Olive Oil Biot

Antique Olive Oil Biot

From the 16th century to the present, the biot has been produced hundreds of thousands of times over the years. This was an art of the land that was handed down from father to son. It became a reference of expertise and was a magnet for business, especially foreign business. These jars, semi sacred from the olive oil they usually carried, marked the massive expansion of olive oil and the growth of global trade. They were sealed with a thick lead glaze on the inside and around the lipping to prevent water leakage.
